Yes, gambling is indeed fun for adolescents who enter the games, whether online of land-based, because it gives them a chance to meet new friends and provide them with a break from all the hard day's work. After all, they deserve to have some fun once in a while. However, the picture becomes different when a youth is indeed involve in gambling and this has been referred to as youth gambling, a problem that persists today.
There is a difference between youth gambling and adult gambling which tends to put youth gambling at a higher risk than their adult counterparts. It is worthy to note them here.
First, youth gambling is considered illegal in several countries and states because of its perceived harm to the youth. Unlike those adults involved in gambling, sanctions and penalties are provided for those who will violate the laws that prohibit youth to be involved in gambling. The UN has a definition of youth being those twenty one years of age and below and the respective states and countries provide for their own definitions and determinants of who is considered to belong to the youth.
Second, the youth do not have stable sources of income yet that will let them provide for the basic things they need and have gambling as a past time that could sometimes prove to be very expensive. They are more likely to be down in trouble with their finances and could resort to other means which might not lead them to do good.
Third, they are in the stage of their lives where they are prone to too much risk taking and aggressiveness. It will be easier for them to plunge directly into deals without even thinking twice because of their attitude of great assertiveness with the world around them as brought about by their curiosity.
Fourth, they still lack self-control and discipline. Well, most of them are and that is why they still need utmost guidance at this time in their life. They don't have the self initiative to stop when they are losing and even if they don't have any more to gamble in terms of both money and time.
These are the stark differences of the youth from those that are already of the right and legal age to gamble. It will be important to note these differences and serve as the social responsibility of the gambling providers to help in prohibiting the youth from gambling and follow the rule of law.
